What is the Main Thing?

To be blunt, sometimes we just need to get people in love with Jesus, and then free to be who and how He wants them/us to be. We all carry baggage but…

John 8:32, 36
[Jesus said:] “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free…
“…So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

We have seen some dramatic turnarounds based on this headline truth. Neil Anderson has developed this in a biblically balanced way under the banner ‘Freedom in Christ’ and we used it in a very damaged church full of hurting people in the 1990s to great effect, since when it has become a national ministry (another story…)

Getting them in love with Jesus is a pre-requisite, though. This is more of a ‘given’ in Baptist ministry, because they are all used to hearing people’s stories of how they came to know Jesus, told round the baptism pool.

In the C of E we can find ourselves starting at a completely different place, where they don’t think about journey’ or ‘story’ or ‘experience’ much, if at all.

Developing a sense of a personal story – and journey

Telling stories is always a good approach.
